Luke Altmyer's Biography

Luke Altmyer was born on October 22, 2002, and is recognized within the American football industry as a stand-out quarterback. He currently represents the Illinois Fighting Illini, bringing a quality of gameplay that is rigid and yet displays an admirable undercurrent of adaptability that shines through the various challenging stages of his career.

Having been born and raised in Starkville, Mississippi, Altmyer has harbored a strong connection to his hometown which is mirrored in his initial football pursuits. A proud alumni of Starkville High School, Altmyer made a considerable impression during his high school football career. He attempted 659 passes, successfully completing 454 of them, which amounted to a total of 5,523 yards. In an impressive showcase of his skills as a quarterback, Altmyer also scored 63 touchdowns while throwing just ten interceptions.

However, Altmyer was not solely reliant on his passing skills. He managed to exhibit his on-field versatility by rushing for eight yards and scoring six touchdowns. Amid several scholarship offers, he made the deciding commitment to play college football at Ole Miss, choosing the university over other reputable football programs such as Alabama, Florida State, and LSU.

A notable moment in Altmyer’s blooming career came during the 2022 Sugar Bowl when he substituted for the first-string quarterback, Matt Corral, who suffered an injury. Despite the unfortunate circumstance, Altmyer held his own, throwing 15 complete passes out of 28 attempts, gaining 174 yards, and scoring a touchdown. However, the Rebels ended up losing the game to Baylor with a score of 21-7.

In his debut season of 2021, Altmyer completed 20 of his 37 passes, resulting in 192 yards, and one touchdown while throwing two interceptions. He kicked off his starting career in the second week match against Central Arkansas where he completed 6 out of his 13 passes, aggregating 90 yards, and scoring two touchdown besides an interception. He also added a touchdown to his score from running the ball. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury during the second quarter and had to exit the game. He finished the 2022 season with a satisfactory performance, throwing eight completions for 17, gaining 125 yards, and scoring two touchdowns against one interception. He also scored one touchdown through a run.

Upon the conclusion of that season, Altmyer announced his decision to enter the NCAA transfer portal. He decided to further his college career at the University of Illinois. After transferring to Illinois, has been announced as the starting quarterback for their first-week games.
