Upon graduation, Monangai was drawn to Rutgers University due to its renowned football program. He committed to playing college football at the university, marking the beginning of his collegiate football career. Monangai’s debut year at Rutgers in 2020 saw him joining the field in five games. Although he didn’t have a carry in his first season, the experience was a learning curve and a stepping stone for him.
In 2021, Monangai’s performance dramatically improved. He participated in 11 games, logging in 235 yards with 62 carries while recording four touchdowns. Monangai’s upward trajectory continued into his sophomore year in 2022. He embraced the responsibilities that come with starting football matches, leading 11 out of 12 games. This commitment paid off as he recorded 445 yards with 109 carries and accomplished two touchdowns.
