Kurtis Rourke's Biography
Kurtis Rourke, a Canadian American football quarterback, was born on October 25, 2000. Currently playing for the Indiana Hoosiers, his football journey was paved with numerous successes which brought his skill and determination to the forefront of multiple teams.
Before making his mark on the Hoosiers, Rourke gained experience and recognition as the starting quarterback for the Ohio Bobcats football team. After a season redshirting in 2019, he returned in 2020 to share his quarterback duties with his teammate Armani Rogers. Over the next year and a half, he continued to share the position with Rogers, demonstrating his strong team-playing spirit.
Rourke’s prowess on the football field led to numerous recognitions, such as being named the MAC Student Athlete of the Week on October 27, 2021, and again on September 27, 2023. His performance during the 2022 season as the Bobcats’ starting quarterback was nothing but phenomenal. He went on to secure the MAC East Offensive Player of the Week title three times during the same season.
The first time he won the prestigious title came in the first week itself after an incredible performance against the Florida Atlantic, where he passed for an impressive 308 yards, scoring four touchdowns. He won the accolade once again in week 4, where he set a school record by passing for 537 yards against Fordham. His third win came in week 10 after he passed for 317 yards and successfully completed five touchdown passes against Buffalo.
Despite an impressive 2022 season, Rourke faced a setback after suffering from a torn ACL during the eleventh game against Ball State. The incident brought his season to an early end, but not before he managed to rake in 3,256 yards and 25 touchdowns. His outstanding performance, despite missing the last game and a half of the regular season, led to him winning the 2022 Vern Smith Leadership Award for MAC Player of the Year.
The 2023 season started with Rourke being included in the watch lists for numerous prominent awards, including the Maxwell Award, Davey O’Brien Award, Walter Camp Award, Manning Award, and Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award. Despite not clinching these titles, he ended the regular season as the second team all-MAC, showcasing his consistency and reliability on the field.
On December 5, 2023, Rourke made a significant decision in his career by entering the transfer portal. He officially announced his transfer to the Indiana Hoosiers on December 14, signaling a new chapter in his football journey.
Rourke was born to Larry and Robyn Rourke and shares a strong affinity for football with his family. His older brother, Nathan Rourke, followed a similar career path. Nathan preceded Kurtis as Ohio’s starting quarterback and has since become a professional quarterback, playing for the B.C. Lions in the Canadian Football League (CFL).
Throughout his rapidly ascending career, Kurtis Rourke has demonstrated a steadfast dedication and a sparkling prowess on the football field. His journey from Ohio Bobcats to the Indiana Hoosiers fully captures his efforts and commitment to continually honing his sport.
