Kisean Johnson's Biography

Born on October 9, 1996, KeeSean Johnson is a skilled American professional football wide receiver who presently plays for the Saskatchewan Roughriders team in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He has made his mark in the sport from the high school level, through an impressive college career, hitting significant milestones in the National Football League (NFL), to his current position in the CFL.

Raised in Palo Alto, California, Johnson discovered his passion for football while a student at Palo Alto High School. It was the same school that produced Davante Adams, another prominent NFL player. Johnson’s ability on the field, even then, was recognized and nurtured.

After graduating high school, he moved on to Fresno State University, where he would carve out an illustrious collegiate football career. Johnson took a redshirt in his 2014 freshman year, playing just one game. However, his time on the bench was short-lived as he jumped right into the fray in 2015.

In the 2016 season, as a sophomore, Johnson led his team in receptions, receiving yards, and receiving touchdowns. His talents shone brightly, earning him the coveted position as the team’s lead receiver. Johnson did not disappoint as he continued to lead the team in the same disciplines during his 2017 junior season, breaking historical records as he caught at least one pass in each of the 14 games played. This achievement surpassed Henry Ellard’s previous record of 34 set between 1979 and 1982, furnishing Johnson with a program record of 36 consecutive games with a catch dating back to 2015.

This achievement did not go unnoticed as he was honored with his first All-Mountain West Conference Second-Team selection in 2017. In his senior year, 2018, Johnson outdid himself yet again, leading his team in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns for the third straight season. This feat made him the program’s all-time leader in both career receptions (with 275) and career receiving yards (with 3,463), cementing his place in Fresno State record books. His sterling performance was recognized when he was named an All-Mountain West Second-Team selection for the second time.

With such a glowing record in college football, Johnson was eyed by the NFL. The Arizona Cardinals drafted him in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL draft. He made a strong start to his professional career, debuting in the Cardinals’ season opener against the Detroit Lions. Johnson’s first NFL touchdown came on October 31, 2019, against the San Francisco 49ers, a moment he cherishes deeply.

Johnson faced a setback on September 11, 2020, when he was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list. After ten days, he was luckily given the all-clear and returned to his team. His journey with the Cardinals ended on August 30, 2021, when he was released by the team.

Soon afterward, Johnson was signed to the Philadelphia Eagles’ practice squad. Roughly a year later, he was again hampered by the COVID pandemic, but he recovered quickly and continued with his career. For a short period, Johnson enjoyed a stint with the San Francisco 49ers and the Atlanta Falcons, but his tenure with both teams was cut short as he was waived by both.

A chance with the Buffalo Bills materialized on October 11, 2022, when Johnson was signed to their practice squad. He entered into a reserve/future contract with them on January 23, 2023. However, his time with the Bills also ended on August 29, 2023, when he was released.

After experiencing the highs and lows in the NFL, Johnson found a new home in the Canadian football league. On February 29, 2024, Johnson signed a contract with the Saskatchewan Roughriders, adding another chapter to his impressive sporting career.

Off the field, exercises a keen sense of humor. Johnson once confirmed that he was not named after Keyshawn Johnson – a coincidence that fans have noted given that both he and the former NFL receiver have donned the jersey number 19 during their careers. Despite the parallels, Johnson has admitted to meeting Keyshawn before, appreciating the coincidence that ties their football journeys together.

In conclusion, the exceptional football career of KeeSean Johnson serves as an inspiration for aspiring players. His journey elucidates that persistence and dedication, coupled with talent and passion, can carve out an enduring path in professional sports. With his move to the Canadian Football League, football enthusiasts are eager to see how this next phase in Johnson’s career unfolds.
