Keleki Latu's Biography

Cameron Latu, an esteemed American professional football player, was born on February 24 in the year 2000 in Los Angeles, California to parents Jillene Argust and Viliami Latu. At the tender age of two, his family moved to Chisholm, Minnesota. Aside from his fraternal twin brother Nathan, who plays football at Oklahoma State at defensive end, he also has an older brother, Sioka.

During his childhood, Cameron began his athletic journey with football, along with basketball and track and field. As fate would have it, by 2013, his family had relocated once more to Salt Lake City, Utah where Cameron attended Olympus High School and fueled his football passion.

Cameron displayed glaring proficiency at a young age, and his junior year stats bodied well for his future prowess in the game. He showcased gritty defense with an impressive 65 tackles, inclusive of 20 tackles for loss, and nine sacks. His versatility was further highlighted on offense where he executed 14 catches for 175 yards along with two touchdowns. These contributions were instrumental in steering the team to an impressive 8-3 record and securing a berth in the playoffs.

Initially committed to Brigham Young University together with his twin, Cameron reassessed his options after an exceptional senior year. With 45 tackles, 8 TFLs, 3 sacks on defense with a valuable contribution to the offense, his decision to reopen his recruitment was validated. Eventually, amidst offers from 22 including Nebraska, USC, and Utah, he committed to his college football journey at Alabama.

His freshman year in 2018 saw Cameron redshirted after participating in two games and recording a tackle in his college debut against Louisville. The following year, he transitioned from linebacker to tight end preceded his redshirt freshman season to deepen the Crimson Tide bench. That season, he played in 11 games primarily on special teams.

In 2020, his redshirt sophomore year, Cameron served primarily on special teams while etching his role as a tight end over twelve games. The pinnacle of his college career came in 2021 when he was named the starting tight end, a major milestone marked by scoring two touchdowns in a 44–13 triumph over Miami in the Chick-fil-A Kickoff Game. He also made notable possession against Southern Miss by picking up a fumbled ball in the end zone. Cameron capped his redshirt junior season with a memorable performance against Georgia in the College Football Championship.

Cameron’s journey into professional football began with the 2023 NFL draft where he was picked by the San Francisco 49ers as the 101st overall in the third round. Unfortunately, an injury in the form of a torn meniscus during the preseason on week 3 led to him being placed on injured reserve, abruptly ending his first NFL season. He was later waived by the 49ers in August 2024.

Nevertheless, fortune favored Cameron once again when on August 29, 2024, the Cleveland Browns added him to their practice squad. Hence, despite having faced some challenges over the course of his career, Cameron Latu’s resilience and passion for the sport were clear determinants of his resurgence in professional football.
