KeAndre Lambert-Smith, commonly known as KLS, occupies a special place in the landscape of American football. He was born on July 29, 2002, and has made a name for himself as a dynamic wide receiver. Currently, Lambert-Smith is showcasing his talents for the Auburn Tigers, adding countless highlights to his illustrious career in football.
However, Lambert-Smith’s journey in football has been anything but ordinary. Born and raised in Norfolk, Virginia, his football career started to gain momentum during his time at Matthew Fontaine Maury High School. Here, his high school senior year saw him gain over 1,500 yards from scrimmage and score an impressive array of 26 touchdowns! His determined spirit and successful efforts greatly contributed to Maury’s triumph in the Group 5A state championship.
As the time to choose his college approached, Lambert-Smith’s exceptional talent had not gone unnoticed. Universities from across the country vied for his commitment, including prestigious institutions like North Carolina, Ohio State, Clemson, and Georgia. However, garnering a reputation as a four-star recruit, Lambert-Smith chose Penn State Nittany Lions as the launchpad for his college sports career.
His debut season as a true freshman at Penn State was promising. Lambert-Smith caught 15 passes for a total of 138 yards. The exceptional circumstances brought on by the coronavirus pandemic meant that this season did not count against his eligibility. Though a minor setback, Lambert-Smith seized the opportunity to further hone his skills.
His efforts paid off in his redshirt freshman season. With 34 receptions for 521 yards and five touchdowns, Lambert-Smith turned heads and got the football world’s attention. But his talent knew no bounds. The 2023 Rose Bowl saw him secure three receptions for 124 yards and a touchdown. One of these included an 88-yard reception which set a new Rose Bowl record. With his redshirt sophomore season offering 24 receptions for 389 yards, four touchdowns, and even two successful pass attempts for 73 yards, there was no doubt that Lambert-Smith was a rising star.
Despite his triumphs, the year 2024 sent ripples through Lambert-Smith’s career. He announced his decision to enter the transfer portal on April 15. Then, on April 24, Lambert-Smith announced that he was headed to Auburn, marking a significant shift in his football journey.
It seems football prowess runs in the Lambert-Smith family. His uncle, Kam Chancellor, is a celebrated name in the football circuit as well. A product of Virginia Tech’s football program, Chancellor went on to play in the NFL for a notable seven seasons.
