This remarkable upset victory was nothing short of a shocker, especially considering Mississippi State’s firm footing in the SEC, and resulted in a lucrative payout of $1.2 million for the Rockets.
On July 19, ahead of the season, the MAC announced the results of the preseason coaches poll. Toledo was predicted to finish the season as runners-up in the conference. The prediction indicates a belief in the capabilities of the current Rockets team, as they received two votes for the MAC Championship, further propelling the team’s reputation in the overall conference.
The schedule for the season included home games in Toledo’s Glass Bowl and various away games at different stadiums across the country. These included the Davis Wade Stadium in Starkville, Mississippi, the Houchens Industries–L. T.
