Jordon Simmons's Biography
Introduction:
Jordan Simmons, born on July 15, 1994, is a former professional American football player who had a notable career as a guard in the National Football League (NFL). This exceptional athlete remarkably stood out in his high school years, leading him to play for a prestigious university team before advancing to the organized, intense plays in the professional football league.
Early Life and High School Career:
Simmons was born and raised in Inglewood, California where he spent his formative years contributing to his athletic development. Sports, specifically football, have been an immense part of his life since his early years. He enrolled at Susan Miller Dorsey High School and later transferred to Crespi Carmelite High School where he had an illustrious high school football career. As a member of the Celts football team, he demonstrated exceptional skills and prowess, earning the rare five-star recruit status. His performance consistently ranked him as the second-best offensive line prospect in the country during his senior year, marking him as a player to watch for.
College Football Career:
Upon graduating from high school, Simmons attended the University of Southern California, where he was consistently part of the USC Trojans football team for five seasons, first making his mark as a redshirt player in his freshman year. However, his college years were not without challenges. He encountered significant physical issues, particularly struggling with knee injuries. These unfortunate circumstances led to his limited exposure, and he was only able to participate in a few games during his freshman and sophomore seasons as a reserve. As a junior, he shifted positions to defensive tackle but was still limited to a single game due to his continuous injuries.
His senior season saw noteworthy improvements, with Simmons appearing in all 13 games of the Trojans and making two starts. However, his appeal to the NCAA for another year of eligibility was unfortunately turned down.
Professional Career:
Undeterred by his college struggles, Simmons entered the world of professional football, signing with the Oakland Raiders on April 29, 2017. Despite being cut at the end of the training camp, he rejoined the team’s practice squad on September 4 of the same year.
After an entire season with the Raiders practice squad, Simmons signed a reserve/future contract to remain with the team on January 2, 2018. However, he was again waived on September 1, 2018, marking the end of his tenure with Raiders. On September 2, 2018, Simmons was claimed off waivers by the Seattle Seahawks, where he made his NFL debut on September 30, 2018, against the Arizona Cardinals.
Over the next few years, his playing time varied, starting only three out of six games due to off and on injuries. In 2020, and again in 2021, Simmons was re-signed by the Seahawks, but was eventually released on August 31, 2021.
By October 2021, Simmons had found a new home with the Las Vegas Raiders, who signed him from the Seahawks practice squad. The following year, in July 2022, he was signed by the Buffalo Bills after a workout, but his time with them was brief as he was waived in August 2022. Despite the ups and downs of his professional career, Simmons’ skill, passion, and resilience for the sport have been evident throughout.
