Jaden Smith's Biography
Jaden Christopher Syre Smith, also known as just Jaden Smith, was born on July 8, 1998, in the seaside city of Malibu, California. He is the son of two successful American actors, Jada Pinkett Smith and Will Smith, giving him a foundation to pursue a career in entertainment from a young age. Smith has an older half-brother, Trey Smith, and a younger sister named Willow Smith, both of whom have also made their foray into the entertainment industry.
Smith’s reputation as a performer took off when he made his debut alongside his father in the 2006 film, “The Pursuit of Happyness”. The young actor then appeared in the 2008 remake of the classic science fiction film, “The Day the Earth Stood Still”, and again in the 2010 remake of “The Karate Kid” with Jackie Chan. In 2013, the father and son duo featured again in the film “After Earth”. Amidst all these ventures, Smith promptly made a return to acting after a three-year hiatus in 2016, when he starred in the two-part Netflix series, “The Get Down”. He also played a character in the company’s anime series, “Neo Yokio”.
Aside from acting, Smith set out on a successful music career. His first appearance as a recording artist was as a guest on Canadian singer Justin Bieber’s 2010 single, “Never Say Never”, which was featured in “The Karate Kid” film’s soundtrack and became a hit on the Billboard Hot 100. Smith’s musical journey continued with the release of multiple mixtapes including CTV2 in 2014, and his debut studio album, “Syre” in 2017, under Roc Nation and Interscope Records. Following Syre, he released two more studio albums, “Erys” in 2019, and “CTV3: Cool Tape Vol. 3” in 2020.
Smith’s contributions to both film and music have been met with several accolades, including a Teen Choice Award, an MTV Movie Award, a BET Award, and a Young Artist Award. His work also earned him two NAACP Image Awards, an Empire Award, and a Grammy Award nomination. In 2022, he received another Grammy nomination for Album of the Year for his featured work on Bieber’s album, “Justice”.
Smith’s endeavours extend beyond acting and music. He, along with his siblings, became youth ambassadors for Project Zambi, an initiative in conjunction with Hasbro aimed to support Zambian children orphaned by AIDS. Outside of his humanitarian efforts, Smith has set a name for himself in the fashion world. He has been recognized as a fashion icon and pioneer for his bold style choices, such as wearing a skirt in a Louis Vuitton womenswear campaign. Smith’s forward-thinking fashion choices have landed him the description by GQ as being “in a league of his own”.
Despite his fame and success, Smith’s upbringing was not without its challenges. He’s openly discussed the difficulties he faced growing up due to his and his family’s celebrity status. Despite his busy acting and music career, Smith managed to partake in recreational activities like skateboarding.
At a young age of over 12 years old, Smith became a partner in the spring water company, Just Water, which is committed to creating an affordable water filtration system accessible to everyone.
