Born and raised in the unique city of Seattle, Washington, Jack Velling emerged in the sports realm as one of the most outstanding talents in American football. A prominent player proficient in the role of a tight end, Velling’s football journey harbors a chapter of passion, resilience, and exceptional performance. Though he started his career locally, it wasn’t long before his talents carried him to the fields of Michigan State Spartans and Oregon State Beavers.

Growing up in Seattle allowed Velling to experience a diverse and bustling environment, fueling his attraction to football from a young age. Velling attended Seattle Prep School, where he honed his football abilities and became known for his remarkable skill in the daunting position of tight end. By his senior year, he was dominating the field with 57 catches extending 838 yards, an outstanding accomplishment that set the tone for his collegiate future. Alongside this, he also scored four touchdowns, further demonstrating his value on the field.

Out of the many who noticed his astounding performance, several prestigious colleges sought to assimilate Jack into their roster. Bearing numerous offers from reputable institutions like Arizona, Fresno State, Michigan, Minnesota, and Utah, Velling had the luxury of choice. Yet, he decided to commit his collegiate football career to the Oregon State Beavers.

Initializing his time with the Beavers, Jack made his debut in the third week against Montana State. It was a noteworthy introduction to Velling’s college career, where he caught a sleek pass for seven yards. Advancing in his football journey, he displayed his flexibility and dynamism in week seven when he secured four impressive receptions for 63 yards against Washington State.

Week eight marked a notable point in Velling’s career when he celebrated his first career touchdown against Colorado. He championed a remarkable sixty-yard reception, further solidifying his rising profile. Subsequently, in the eleventh week against California, Velling scored yet another touchdown and recorded two catches for fifteen yards. This effort played a crucial role in leading the Beavers to a triumphant 38-10 victory.

His growing performance did not stop there. In week twelve against Arizona State, Velling showcased the best display of skill and capability of his college career. He caught three passes for 73 yards and a touchdown, driving the Beavers to a 31-7 victory. During the year-end bowl game, despite Oregon State’s decisive victory over Florida, Velling’s personal accomplishment was two receptions for twenty-one yards.

At the season’s closure, Velling tallied 16 receptions for 281 yards and three touchdowns, a reputable record for a freshman. His commendable performance throughout the season led him to be picked as a Freshman All-American honorable mention. The season’s end also saw him being assigned the role of the Beavers’ starting tight end in 2023.

However, barely settling into his newly assigned position, Velling announced that he would be entering the transfer portal on December 6, 2023. Barely two weeks later, he revealed that he’d be moving east to lend his talents to the Michigan State Spartans.
