Grayson’s introduction to sports happened at a young age, not on a football field, but a baseball diamond. At just 12, he joined a traveling Little League all-star baseball team, which even had the honor of playing in a televised tournament staged in the iconic baseball town of Cooperstown, New York. However, before reaching high school, Grayson decided to step away from his burgeoning baseball career.

In his teenage years, attending Porter Ridge High School in Indian Trail, North Carolina, Grayson transferred his sports skills to the domain of football. Here, he arrived as a promising player, showcasing his skill as a quarterback by passing for a total of 3,863 yards with 34 touchdowns while rushing for 3,003 yards and 41 touchdowns. Upon graduating in 2019, he was tagged as a two-star recruit and ranked as the 2889th player in his class.

When the time came to choose a college, Grayson dedicated his football talents to Coastal Carolina University, committing on December 19, 2018. Despite receiving offers from other notable colleges like Army, Chattanooga, Eastern Kentucky, and Gardner-Webb, Grayson decided to put on the Chanticleers’ jersey.

Grayson’s initial year at Coastal Carolina in 2019 saw him appear in two games. He showcased his impressive precision with four successful pass attempts that accumulated 25 yards and a touchdown. Even when forecasts speculated that the Coastal Carolina football team would finish last, Grayson led the team to an unprecedented undefeated regular season. Under his leadership, the team made its debut appearance in the AP and Coaches Poll peaking at number 12. Not only did they secure their first-ever Co-Sun Belt conference championship, but they also marked their first-ever bowl game appearance in the 2020 Cure Bowl. Nevertheless, the team tasted their only defeat of the season in this match.

Despite the loss, the team’s overall performance, led by Grayson, was phenomenal. He started all twelve games and crucially led the team to victory in big matchups against undefeated teams like Louisiana and BYU. The tussle against BYU even got a nickname of “Mormons vs. Mullets” and was considered the biggest win in Coastal Carolina’s history. At the end of the season, Grayson’s exceptional performance earned him the titles of Sun Belt Conference Player of the Year, Sun Belt Freshman of the Year, First-team All-Sun Belt honors, and nominations for prestigious awards like the Davey O’Brien Award and Manning Award.

In 2022, Grayson declared that he was entering the NCAA transfer portal. However, he decided against transferring and chose to remain at Coastal for the 2023 season, according to a report by ESPN on January 1, 2023. Yet, he entered the portal a second time on November 29, 2023.

Finally, on his 23rd birthday, December 13, 2023, Grayson announced a significant decision in his football career – he was transferring to North Carolina State. Now, as the quarterback for the NC State Wolfpack, Grayson continues to astound his fans, the audience, and critics with his unwavering commitment to the game and exceptional talent on the field.
