Giovanni Lopez, a professional football coach and retired player, was born on 23rd May 1967 in Italy. Throughout his football career, he was recognized as a commendable defender and he is presently the head coach for AlbinoLeffe, a Serie C Group A club.

Domesticated in the world of football from an early stage, Giovanni had the pleasure of playing at Vicenza, where he made a significant contribution to the team’s victory in the 1996–97 Coppa Italia. Subsequently, he also participated in esteemed clubs such as Lazio, Napoli, and Torino before he concluded his on-field journey after a season at Lodigiani, a Rome-based club.

In 2006, staying true to his undying passion for football, Lopez returned to the field; however, he assumed a different role this time. He was appointed as the head coach of Cisco Roma, the successor to Lodigiani, and again in the year 2008. Further expanding his coaching career, Giovanni Lopez was appointed as the head coach of the Vicenza Calcio first team on 15th July 2013.

During the period of 2010 to 2012, Giovanni Lopez dedicated his skills and knowledge to Lazio as he worked as the assistant manager. Under his coaching, Vicenza successfully reached the promotion playoffs in Lega Pro Prima Divisione, resulting in his confirmation after the club was chosen to fill a vacancy in the Serie B league. However, he was relieved of his duties on 29th October 2014 due to subpar results.

Giovanni’s coaching journey remained eventful as he was appointed as the new manager of Lucchese on 28th October 2015, only to be dismissed on 22nd February 2016. Nevertheless, he got another chance and was reappointed on 28th March 2017 but unfortunately, he had to step down again the same year.

Lopez didn’t have an easy journey with Serie C club Viterbese either. He joined the club on 7th November 2018 when they were positioned in the 10th place in the table. On 20th August 2019, he was reappointed as the head. However, he was dismissed again on 11th November 2019 following a league loss and Coppa Italia elimination, despite the club having a decent 6th position in the table.

Yet another chance was given to him by Lucchese on 26th October 2020. Unfortunately, he had to leave on 13th April 2021 due to the club being embroiled in the relegation zone towards the end of the season.

Lopez’s coaching journey took a turn for the better when he was hired by Pistoiese in Serie C on 14th December 2021. However, a change in club ownership led to his dismissal, merely a month later, on 25th January 2022.

Never mounting down from the challenges, on 18th January 2023, Lopez agreed to rejoin Viterbese for the third time. But, unfortunately, he was unable to save the club from relegation.

Turning this adversity into an opportunity, he was unveiled as the new head coach of AlbinoLeffe, another Serie C club, on 1st July 2023. With his rich coaching experience spanning multiple clubs and years, it is hoped that his tenure will bring new heights to the team.

Looking back at his vicissitudes, the journey of Giovanni Lopez is an inspirational tale of persistence and resilience. Despite the ups and downs in his career, it is his sheer determination, passion for the game, and versatile roles with Vicenza and Lazio that shine the brightest.
