Garrett Greene, the promising young sportsman from Florida, had numerous offers for college football from esteemed universities like Cincinnati, Georgia Tech, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, and TCU. However, in an endeavor that would go on to shape his career, Greene decided to commit to play college football at West Virginia University, an option that has since carved his legacy in the backdrop of the Appalachian Mountains.

Greene’s maiden season in 2020 may not have been resounding in numbers, but it established his raw talent. He successfully completed three of his four passes for 24 yards, while concurrently rushing six times for 40 yards. However, his true potential unfurled in the 2021 season. A notable performance came during week one, where Greene stormed through LIU, completing passes for 57 yards and rushing for an impactful 98 yards, enabling the Mountaineers to finish with an overwhelming 66-0 victory.

Over the 2021 season, his progress was evident as he demonstrated a consistent performance, completing 16 of his 26 passes for 147 yards and rushing for nearly 300 yards. Greene not only carried his team forward but etched his name on the Mountaineers’ leaderboard with four touchdowns and 48 carries.

Greene’s defining moment arose in week eleven of the same season. Following the unexpected benching of JT Daniels, Greene was called upon to fill the boots of the starting quarterback. He took to the field, exuding confidence and composure, completing 12 of his 22 passes for 138 yards and seizing a touchdown along the way. The riveting encounter at Oklahoma’s 17 yard line on 3rd and six was pivotal. With Greene at the helm, the Mountaineers nailed a game-winning field goal to overpower Oklahoma 23-20.

The stupendous display earned Greene his first career start. Despite the mounting pressure, Greene exhibited maturity beyond his years, completing 15 of his 27 passes for a sizeable 204 yards. This uplifting performance included three touchdowns and an interception, although the team eventually fell short to Kansas State 48-31.

The first breakout game of the season saw him complete ten of his passes for an impressive 240 yards and a career-high four touchdowns, contributing significantly to the Mountaineers’ victory over Duquesne.
