Born on August 12, 2003, Devin Neal has risen to prominence through remarkable sportsmanship. Devin’s early life in Lawrence, Kansas, forged a deep bond with his hometown. He attended Lawrence High School, where his early talent began to shine. In his senior year, his meteoric ascent saw him rush for 1,327 yards and 20 touchdowns, begging recognition as the first team Class 6A All-State member.
Standing out as a four-star recruit, Neal turned heads in the recruitment process. Despite receiving offers from reputed institutions including Iowa, Kansas State, Nebraska, and Oklahoma State, his undying loyalty to his roots made him choose the University of Kansas. Starting his collegiate career, Neal made a dazzling debut in his freshman year. His distinguishing performances earned him the honor of being the first freshman in school history to be named the Big 12 Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
Simultaneously, he kept the baseball diamond alive, participating in seven games in his freshman year. By the end of his freshman year, he had clocked in 158 carries for 707 yards and 8 touchdowns rushing, further bolstering his grit with seven grabs for 57 yards and one touchdown.
As he entered his sophomore year, Neal was appointed as the Jayhawks’ starting running back. His contribution was felt when he was named the Doak Walker Award national running back of the week and again, the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week. His phenomenal performance against Oklahoma State, where he successfully gained 224 yards and scored a touchdown on 32 carries, propelled the Jayhawks to their first bowl eligibility since 2008.
Through 2022, Neal exhibited continued resilience in all of Kansas’ 13 games, rushing 180 times for 1,090 yards and delivering nine touchdowns, highlighting his multi-faceted talent with 21 catches for 183 yards and one touchdown.
As Neal entered his junior year, he represented Kansas in every game that season. Several noteworthy performances include games against Nevada, Central Florida, Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas State, and Cincinnati, all of which saw him rushing an impressive total of over 1,280 yards and scoring 16 touchdowns.
Not only did Neal demonstrate an impressive running career, but he also accumulated commendable stats in receiving, culminating in a total of one receiving touchdown by the end of his junior year.
