Davi Ramos is an accomplished Brazilian mixed martial artist and Brazilian jiu-jitsu practitioner, renowned for his stellar career since his professional debut in 2010. Born on November 5, 1986, the Brazilian athlete has displayed remarkable prowess in the Lightweight division, currently nestled at the number 9 spot in the Absolute Championship Akhmat (ACA) Lightweight rankings.
Hailing from Brazil, a country known for producing some of the greatest martial artists, Ramos embarked on his professional journey in the MMA industry in July 2010. In the span of the next six years, he put together an impressive record of six wins as opposed to one defeat, proving his mettle in the brutal sport.
The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), the leading MMA promotional event worldwide, served as a significant platform for Ramos. He marked his UFC debut on March 11, 2017. Initially scheduled to fight in the Welterweight division, Ramos stepped in as a replacement for Max Griffin, facing off against Sérgio Moraes at UFC Fight Night: Belfort vs. Gastelum. Despite a fierce performance, Ramos suffered a loss via unanimous decision.
However, his initial stumble didn’t deter his MMA journey in UFC. His second promotion fight took place on December 9, 2017, where Ramos emerged victorious against Chris Gruetzemacher at UFC Fight Night: Swanson vs. Ortega. Ramos utilized his Jiu-Jitsu skillset to his advantage, winning the fight via rear-naked choke submission in the third round.
Following his triumph over Gruetzemacher, Ramos continued his successful streak in UFC. He faced Nick Hein on May 12, 2018, at UFC 224, winning the bout via rear-naked choke submission in the first round. He continued his upper hand on the mats, winning the fight against John Gunther at UFC Fight Night 139 on November 10, 2018, via the same submission.
Ramos also managed to secure victory against the promotional newcomer Austin Hubbard at UFC Fight Night 152 on May 18, 2019, through a unanimous decision. However, he wasn’t as fortunate in his bout with Islam Makhachev at UFC 242 on September 7, 2019, where he lost the fight via unanimous decision.
Ramos was initially set to face Arman Tsarukyan on April 11, 2020, at UFC Fight Night: Overeem vs. Harris. However, the worldwide COVID-19 pandemic caused the postponement of the event. Consequently, the bout was moved to UFC Fight Night 172 on July 19, 2020, where Ramos had to concede defeat again via a unanimous decision.
The subsequent years observed a sabbatical in Ramos’ career as he wasn’t offered a new contract from UFC. Additionally, there were no upcoming bouts booked for him, leading him to request a release from the UFC after two years. His request was granted, marking his departure from UFC.
Following his release, Ramos’ career took a turn toward ACA. He announced his participation in the ACA Lightweight Grand Prix, debuting his ACA journey against Artem Reznikov at ACA 140 on June 17, 2022. The bout concluded with Ramos’ losing via unanimous decision.
Ramos then faced Aurel Pîrtea on April 8, 2023, at ACA 155, turning the tables in his favor by winning the bout through TKO stoppage at the end of the first round. He continued to amass victories, beating Rasul Magomedov at ACA 164 on October 4, 2023, via unanimous decision. However, his run was halted when he lost to Ali Abdulkhalikov in the main event of ACA 176 on May 31, 2024, a match that was part of the 2024 ACA Lightweight Grand Prix Quarterfinal.
In between his ACA career, Ramos also competed in other MMA promotional events. At F2W 177 on July 16, 2021, he faced Pedro Marinho, losing the match through a unanimous decision. Further, his two subsequent matches against Craig Jones and Dante Leon also resulted in losses.
Following these defeats, Ramos was nominated to represent Team LFA along with other prominent fighters in the inaugural UFC FightPass Invitational event on December 16, 2021. He drew both his matches against Anton Berzin and Daniel Pineda but his team emerged as winners of the tournament.
As a former champion, Ramos earned a spot in the 77kg division of the 2022 ADCC World Championship held on September 17–18, 2022. However, due to visa issues, he had to withdraw his participation. Ramos also got a chance to compete in the under 77kg division at the 2024 ADCC World Championship though he failed to overcome the opening round.
Outside of his MMA career, Ramos continues to make his presence felt in competitive Jiu-Jitsu. He was the main event at BJJ Stars 13: Vikings Edition on August 3, 2024, where he faced Micael Galvão, but lost on points.
Despite his ups and downs in the ring, Davi Ramos remains a critically acclaimed athlete in the world of MMA and Jiu-Jitsu, embodying the true spirit of martial arts.
