Colston Loveland, born on April 9, 2004, is an American college football player whose greatness on the field has earned him a key role as a tight end for the Michigan Wolverines. With an exceptional career displaying outstanding talent, Loveland was recognized as a first-team All-Big Ten selection as a sophomore and had a significant role in leading the team to a national championship victory in 2023.

Born and raised on a farm in Bliss, Idaho, Loveland’s humble beginnings laid the foundation for his strong work ethic and immense success. He attended Gooding High School, Idaho, and showcased remarkable abilities in both basketball and football, making a lasting impression in the sports field early on. During his time in Gooding High School, Loveland made a significant contribution to the football team, securing an impressive track record of 235 receptions (91 accomplished as a sophomore), that resulted in total yardage of 3,141 and amassing 35 touchdowns.

In his senior year, Loveland played tight end and linebacker, catching 62 passes for 968 yards and contributing 14 touchdowns. His efforts propelled the Gooding Senators, who held a 9-1 record, to the Class 3A semifinals. Besides his predominant skills in receiving and scoring, Loveland also delivered on the ground, rushing for 352 yards and four touchdowns on 33 carries. On defense, he was a force to be reckoned with, having recorded 57 tackles, 18 tackles for a loss, with 5.5 sacks and intercepting two passes.

His high school career concluded with Loveland being considered a four-star recruit and emerging as the top 250 player nationally. He also earned the accolade as the top player in Idaho, earning the 2021 Idaho Gatorade Player of the Year award. Loveland’s talent drew attention and he received offers from prominent college football programs such as Michigan, Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Utah, Oregon State, Arizona State, Nevada, Idaho, Idaho State, and Utah State.

In July 2021, Loveland committed to play college football at the well-renowned University of Michigan. After graduation, he enrolled early in the University in January 2022. His debut for Michigan’s team, the Wolverines, was marked against Colorado State on September 3, 2022, where he had two receptions for 18 yards. Throughout the 2022 season, Loveland had 16 receptions for 235 yards and two touchdowns, beginning to create a lasting reputation in college football.

Against Ohio State, Loveland made his first collegiate touchdown with a 45-yard pass from J. J. McCarthy in the initial moments of the third quarter. His succeeding game saw another touchdown in the Big Ten Championship Game, contributing to Michigan’s triumphant second consecutive conference championship.

In the 2023 Season, Loveland played a pivotal role in all 15 games as a sophomore for Michigan. His performance concluded with an impressive 45 catches, 649 receiving yards, and four receiving touchdowns. Loveland was recognized as a first-team All-Big Ten selection by the coaches and managed to secure a place in the second-team selected by the media. His notable contributions led Michigan to finish the season with an enviable 15-0 record. The team’s victories include the Big Ten Championship, Rose Bowl, and effectively secured the national championship.

To his pride and joy, Loveland was also the leading receiver for the Wolverines in the national championship game, with three catches for 64 yards. His achievement paved the way for him to become the first Idahoan to be part of a national championship squad since Jorrell Bostrom for Auburn in 2010.

As he entered his junior season, Loveland was already being touted as the finest tight end in college football, a prime candidate for a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
