Chris Durr's Biography

The 2024 Wyoming Cowboys are a dynamic football team assembled to represent the University of Wyoming in the Mountain West Conference during the NCAA Division I FBS football season. As part of an intensive journey, the Cowboys have withstood fierce adversities, demonstrating an exceptional level of courage and skill along the way. The tag team of the university and the crew have coordinated successfully to shape a promising football league roster.

The team’s leadership under the intuitive directions of the new head coach, Jay Sawvel, has progressively facilitated a series of wins. The Cowboys’ home games are played at the War Memorial Stadium in Laramie, Wyoming, a venue that has been a significant part of the team’s history. The stadium has been a bastion of support for the Cowboys, often filled with cheering fans who motivates the team towards victory.

Sawvel’s journey to becoming the head coach is equally commendable. Having previously been an integral part of the team as the defensive coordinator for four years, his promotion to the head coach was well-deserved. This decision was prompted in December 2023 following the retirement of Craig Bohl, the then head coach who had contributed ten solid years to the Wyoming Cowboys. Sawvel’s familiarity with the team’s dynamics, its potential and the areas of improvement provided him with the necessary insights to guide the team effectively.

Achieving a high school class of 20 scholarship athletes and 10 walk-on members, the Cowboys have been diligently working on their strategy and athletic potential. The team’s well-rounded formation includes players specializing in various positions such as Quarterback, Running Back, Wide Receiver, Tight End, Offensive Line, Defensive Line, Place-Kickers, Punters, Long Snapper, Linebacker, and Defensive Back.

The team’s competitive spirit was not confined solely to their home at the War Memorial Stadium. They stretched their abilities in various arenas like the Mountain America Stadium in Tempe, Arizona, DATCU Stadium in Denton, Texas, CEFCU Stadium in San Jose, California, University Stadium in Albuquerque, New Mexico, Canvas Stadium in Fort Collins, Colorado, and Martin Stadium in Pullman, Washington. These game locations have significantly influenced the Cowboys’ journey, providing unique obstacles and opportunities at each site.

The Cowboys have had their shares of thrillers, high-stakes games where they towered over their rivals and games where there seems to be no scoring. Still, through their journey, they have constantly strived and innovated, displaying their athleticism and strategic wit in their actions and decisions. They have consistently upheld their sporting spirit, representing the University of Wyoming with dedication and honor. Their journey has been an embodiment of relentless pursuit of excellence, audacious strategy, teamwork, and perseverance.

The 2024 Wyoming Cowboys have not only left a mark on the field but also in the hearts of countless fans. Their endeavors, resilience, and victories remain a source of inspiration and display the true spirit of sportsmanship. The University of Wyoming remains hopeful and proud of the Cowboys as they continue to conquer the field, embodying the university’s ethos of strength, spirit, and excellence.
