However, reaching the esteemed position Rising now occupies in college football wasn’t a straightforward journey. In 2020, Rising found himself caught in a fierce competition with Jake Bentley for the highly coveted starting quarterback position for the Utah Utes. Despite Bentley ultimately snagging the position, the doors of opportunity were not entirely shut on Rising. He unexpectedly found himself picked to kick-start the game against the USC Trojans. During the match, Rising managed to complete three out of six passes for a commendable 45 yards with one interception. However, an unfortunate shoulder injury during the game sidelined him for the remaining season, marking a halt in his budding career.

After a period of recovery, Rising reemerged in 2021, healthy and hungry for success. This time his competitor was Charlie Brewer. Even though Brewer claimed the starting position, Rising replaced Brewer after just two games. Having reclaimed the position, he then went on to dominate in the proceeding 11 games of the season—a testament to his persistent spirit and remarkable abilities.
