Blake Shapen, born on January 21st, 2001, is a name on the lips of every college football fan. Famed for his disciplined craftsmanship and instinctive play, he is a gifted American football quarterback reputed for his stints with the esteemed Mississippi State Bulldogs and the Baylor Bears. Shapen was born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana – a place renowned for producing some of the finest American sports personalities. His early years saw him attending Evangel Christian Academy, where his love for football began to flourish. He demonstrated outstanding technique as a quarterback, while his strength and speed added a unique dimension to his game. Unyieldingly charging through opponents, he passed for an impressive 2,049 yards while drumming up 24 touchdowns and limiting interceptions to just five. He also added another 324 yards from his rushed attempts, accounting for an additional five touchdowns.

His impressive display on the field caught the eye of several American colleges. Finally, choosing between Arizona State, Ole Miss, Arizona, Louisiana-Lafayette, and Arkansas State, he committed to playing both baseball and football at Arizona State University. By accepting his place at Arizona State University, he intended to become a dual-athlete. However, his plans changed and he eventually de-committed from the university.

Subsequently, he made a significant decision to commit to Baylor University, opting to participate as a two-sport athlete. Here, he demonstrated his formidable resolve and commitment to bettering himself: he redshirted his true freshman season, patiently waiting for his outing on the field.

It was during his redshirt freshman season where he stepped into the limelight becoming the backup to the starting quarterback Gerry Bohanon. With Bohanon succumbing to a hamstring injury late in the season, Shapen got his first considerable playing time during a triumphant 20-10 game against Kansas State. He followed this up with his first career start against Texas Tech, where he completed 20 of 34 pass attempts for 254 yards, and two touchdowns, leading the team to a 27–24 victory.

His crowning glory came during the 2021 Big 12 Championship Game when he was named the game’s MVP. Stepping up in a big way, he passed for 180 yards and three touchdowns, securing a critical 21–16 win over Oklahoma State. Shapen finished the season with stellar statistics, posting a 72.1% completion percentage for 596 yards, tossing five touchdowns, and incredibly, no interceptions.

Building on his glowing resume, Shapen won the starting quarterback spot for the Bulldogs in 2022 during spring practices. His sporting journey, however, took a different turn on November 27, 2023, when he announced that he would be entering the transfer portal. A few days later, on December 8, came the surprise announcement that he would be transferring to play for the Mississippi State Bulldogs.
