The 2024 Texas State Bobcats football team has the honor of representing Texas State University in the Sun Belt Conference’s highly competitive West Division. Competing in the 2024 NCAA Division I FBS football season, the team carries the pride and tradition of the university. The world of college football was buzzing when, on December 27, 2023, a day following the Bobcats’ emphatic win in the First Responder Bowl, it was announced that defensive coordinator Jonathan Patke had been appointed as Duke’s defensive coordinator. The Bobcats, however, were buoyed on February 6, 2024, when reports revealed that safeties coach Dexter McCoil would step up as a defensive coordinator, filling the void left by Patke.
In the Sun Belt preseason coaches’ poll, the Bobcats were favorites, predicted to secure the first place in the West division. A testament to the talented pool of athletes within the team, these players are committed to their craft and dedicated to feeding the winning appetite of the Bobcats.
Quarterback Jordan McCloud, running back Ismail Mahdi, wide receiver Joey Hobert, linebacker Ben Bell, and kicker Mason Shipley earned their places in the preseason All-Sun Belt first team offense, defense and special teams respectively. Meanwhile, wide receiver Kole Wilson and defensive back Kaleb Culp were also recognized for their dazzling performances and named to the second team offense and defense.
